Toys are Yummy!

Makena is starting to notice and show more interest in some of her toys.  Picture 1:  Andy and I got her a Bumbo at the Munchkin Markets (you can read more about our experience here).  Picture 2:  How do I get that in my mouth?  Picture 3:  Elephants are yummy!

3 Months and Crabby

Baby Mak turned 3 months this week.  We think she must be going through a growth spurt as she's been quite crabby in the evenings, mostly wanting to eat and sleep . . . . hmm, maybe she is my child after all?  Andy and I have moved her bedtime up an hour, so we are now starting bath time around 7:30.  I think too it might just be the cooler weather?  Even Finn has started heading to bed early and/or begging for some lap time (last pic) - something he never does in the summer.

Picnic in the Park

Monday was a beautiful day in Minnesota, with the daytime feeling like early summer and the nighttime feeling like early f-a-l-l.  Andy surprised us gals with a picnic for 3 (sorry Finn!) packed and ready to go when I got home after work.  Makena snagged a little nap, while Andy & I dined in the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory gardens.  Wonderful!  Below are a few snap-shots of MJ post-nap, you can see from her rosy cheeks that the cool night air was starting to set in.  The third pic is a part of our nightly routine:  bath (which we love), PJs (which we dislike as it's a detour), eating (which we love) and reading books (reviews are still mixed).

The Week in Review

Monday, Sept. 12 - Start of daycare for Makena and back to work for me.  Makena is being well cared for by Karie Heffernan, who conveniently lives 4 miles from our house.  It's evident to us how much Karie loves children and it's been a wonderful experience working with her so far.  Karie put in a suggestion that pink & brown colored "Mr. Bear" might need to be renamed to "Mrs. Bear."  We are taking it under advisement.
Tuesday, Sept. 13 - Andy insists on a bonfire as the temperature takes a nose-dive. (Pictures 2 & 3)
Wednesday, Sept 14 -Mom and Makena spend some extra time together . . . really just trying to keep warm as the temperature in the house was 63 degrees, brrrr!
Thursday, Sept. 15 - Makena is holding her head up so well that she's been using the Bumbo at daycare and we tested out the BabyBjorn with her facing out.  Also, "George Cooney" - one of Finn's toys - has made a reappearance, as Finn has gotten all too comfortable with making trips downstairs.

Dress-up

After an eventful weekend (baptism pictures coming soon), Andy & I packed up our little fam in the Hyundai Sonata, which is no small feat, and headed to SD for work and visiting relations.  This is my last week of maternity leave, so my mind was on what else???  Clothes of course!  I mean seriously people I'm a Mom now, but I'm still Jenn :)  Check out the vintage Butte Knit dress I snatched up at Trendz Consignment in Brookings - love it!
Don't get me wrong, I am going to miss my little gal bunches.  I also spent time this week gathering daycare supplies and telling Makena how much Andy & I love her, so she always remembers - regardless of where she is.  I think she already knows it...

"Hey guys, don't forget me"

If Finn could talk, and if you've spent anytime around Andy & I when Finn is present (or sometimes not), you know Finn can talk - he probably would have said the post title along with a diatribe about "McDuff" and getting no attention with "that crying thing" in the house.

It was last week Friday morning when Andy brought Finn inside from an evening of "camping" that Andy noticed something was wrong with Finn's right ear.  After further inspection we scheduled a vet appointment, were told it was a nasty ear infection, sent home with 2 tubes of ointment, a $175 vet bill and instructions to put 4-6 drops in his ear 2 times a day.  Right, sure - sounds easy enough.  Ha!  (I will mention here that the vet didn't even attempt to put the drops in Finn's ear after the examination portion of the visit.)  Fast-forward one week and thanks to Andy's persistence, Finn's ear is back to normal.  Below is a snap-shot of Finn hiding under my legs at the vet's office.  You can see Makena is super concerned about Finn's bum ear.  Ah-siblings.

Patterns

So basically it's gone something like this:  Makena takes a nap with Mr. Bear, Mr. Bear mysteriously ends up on the floor wet from "kisses," Mr. Bear ends up in the wash.  Seriously, I think Mr. Bear is the most well laundered item Makena has.  The start of this week was a little cooler, so as you'll see in the pictures below we had to bust out extra blankets and socks!  Yes, it's already September - the unofficial start of the four letter "F" word as I like to call it.  Boo.

Band-aids

Last week was Makena's 2-month doctor appointment.  Her new stats include weighing in at 11lbs, 7 oz and stretching to 22.75 inches.  We did experience our first round of immunization shots.  Super fun.  I actually think Makena took them pretty well . . .  only screaming, no tears.  All made better by a hug & kiss from Mom and some awesome blue Snoopy bandaids.  Here's a few pics, pre- and post- doctor visit.
