I can do it myself

Who knew independence would show up so early?  Over the Thanksgiving holiday break we tried to give Makena a bottle at home before heading out to the various family functions; however she wasn't having it . . . until we let her hold the bottle herself and then everything when swimmingly:

Unfortunately I think this independence streak comes from her mama :)  And one fun morning pic:

Make some NOISE!

It's been hard to explain in words the recent sounds and noises Makena has been making, so when she started buzzing around at bath time, we got out the video camera:

 

First Fruits

Here's a look into an eventful day in the life of Makena Joy.  This morning we discovered our lower lip and mainly that it is another good alternative to suck on when thumb or toes aren't in sight . . . . 

"Hey can I see that thing you're taking pictures with?"

THEN this evening we tasted our first fruit - apples! 

So much excitement makes a girl tired and in need of a little snuggle time with Dad before bed:

 

A week of firsts

This week Makena discovered 2 things - her thumb and her toes (which can alternatively be used to suck on in the event her thumb is occupied . . . like when being used to grab ones toes).  The last picture was an attempt to capture a shot of her pink and gold shoes, but the golden shoes must have some power and her little legs wouldn't stop kicking - Michael Johnson relation?  If you'd like a closer look of said golden shoes, feel free to stop by . . .  preferable on a Friday or Saturday evening.

Making friends

Two weekends ago, we were in SD for a 3-day weekend to celebrate Jacob, Tara and their little bundle of joy to come.  Makena decided she had to come to the baby shower and proceeded to get cozy with MY Auntie, as well as observe my cousin Jessica's little dude - Harvey.  I'm sure it will be no time before Makena and Harv are best buds.
